Elle started off wearing this vintage 1960s ice skating dress, tights, and little else. We just had used a basic studio set up, and the second flash wasn’t going off like we thought it was. Anyway, I was just shooting for the ONE good picture that would give me the base “model” to work from. I was inspired by old Ice-Capades advertisements!
As you can see, I added the ice skates in Photoshop and completely changed the background. I was tempted to add gloves, and still think it needs a little more sparkle, but to get this far took me about 4 hours…. if I had settled for “ok” quality and not been so picky about the background being totally rubbed out or keeping hair and other little details, it would have only taken me about 2 hours. This was the first time I’ve actually ever added clothing to someone, and I could pick at the skates forever (or find new pictures of them and replace with dozens of other choices).
I love creating images like this. The time and trouble are definitely worth it, and I find my skills with Photoshop continuing to improve.
