Felina was in a dark and moody mood. So was I. We started with this amazing goat kidskin steel boned corset from my personal collection, and went from there. I laced it so tight that she was having to breath different than usual, on top of being in a melancholy mood.

My job as a photographer and visual artist is to communicate that, and to make your experience as comfortable and fun as possible (so that you’ll be happy, which will make you extra-beautiful, and come off in the images of you that we create).

This decadent 1890s skirt and beaded shirtwaist absolutely clicked! I notice that different people “vibe” differently in different clothes. Styles and fashions can either bring out someone’s personality or make them feel like they are out of place. This was a perfect fit (size-wise too!)!
While I like to make the pictures more about showing off the fashions than the model, with my historical documentation project, I also want my models to feel “into” the clothing so that they project the emotion and play the part (and aren’t just living clothing racks).

Apparently, it was not uncommon for brides to wear brown and other colors until the turn of the century. The shirtwaist on this antique dress has the most amazing rhinestone buttons, and it was in surprisingly great shape.
